Are They Efficient To Run?
The Kickass fridges all run on a reliable and efficient “universal” secop compressor which were used to be known as Danfoss.
Secop compressors have a tried and tested background which is piece of mind in terms of reliability.
They stand up well in the Australian climate where ambient temperatures can constantly reach 40+ degrees.
The universal Secop compressors can be found in a number of different portable fridge’s on the market and are in most cases as equally as efficient. You can also get Secop compressor spares readily if yours were to fail outside of the 5 year warranty.
It’s important to make sure your electrical setup is correctly equipped to handle such a large fridge as your draw will increase substantially with a large fridge. A qualified auto electrician will be able to advise you on run times and any upgrades that may be required to accommodate running a larger Portable Fridge. In most cases a dual battery setup thats solar boosted is
Are They Built To Last?
The Kickass fridges have been specifically designed to stand up to the Australian Outback. Hence the “outback proof” slogan they have on most of their gear.
While they are not as proven in the market, as the likes of Engel most models do appear to have a sound construction and come with a thick protective cover as standard.
If we take the top best sellers the 80, 75 for example the exterior case comes in a rigid powder coated finish, stainless screws, tie down handles, protective corners and while not ideal, plastic hinges. They do look easily replaced mind you in the event one happens to die on the road.
It’s hard to give accurate feedback on how they go without having one for 10+ years. But if you look at the general construction, they certainly appear to be built to last.
Note: 12V Cigarette lighter plugs are a major cause of problems and compressor failure in all brands. (Feedback From Gables who has repaired hundreds of portable fridges) TIP: Ensure your electrical connections are ROCK SOLID to prevent movement and drop outs.
Backed By a Solid 5 Year Australian Warranty
The Kickass portable fridges are covered by a 5 year Australian warranty. The warranty period starts from the time of purchase and you must obtain you proof of purchase. If you decide to modify or services the unit yourself in anyway will void your warranty. You need to make sure you only get the unit serviced by an approved service agent as it unfortunately will void the warranty. Claims are handled by the team at Evakool.
Consider Adding a Portable Solar Blanket..
If you decide to purchase your own portable fridge it’s going to increase your overall power draw on your battery.
Although most of the Kickass Fridges have a low battery protection and override etc it wouldn’t hurt to have a backup plan in the event your battery runs flat.
Packing yourself a solar blanket will give you peace of mind knowing you’ll never be stuck out bush with a flat battery.
